routine inspection of the workings and in one of the rooms he observed a
piece of loose rock resting upon a cross-bar. He instructed the miner,
working in the room, to take it down, but thinking he could perform the work
with more safety than the miner, he knocked one of the posts out that was
supporting the cross-bar, and was in the act of pulling the bar down with
his hand when the rock fell upon him.);
