A Memorial to the Coal Miners that Worked the
Clyde Mines & Coke Works


Following is a partial list of the miners, coke workers, mine employees and company store employees that worked the Clyde Mine & Coke Works, Clarksville, Fredericktown, Washington Co., PA.   The coal miners names have been researched and complied from various sources by Raymond A. Washlaski, Historian: newspaper obits, newspaper articles, Pennsylvania Bureau of Mines Reports, township histories, and names of coal miners submitted by various people, etc..  No coal company records exist.
The Nationalities listed for various miners, are taken directly from "Report of the Department of Mines of Pennsylvania, Harrisburg, PA" as reported for the various years.  Those listed as American, could be either native born or naturalized citizens.

Since 1870, Pennsylvania's Annual Report on Mining Activities has recorded 51,483 deaths from mining accidents-- 31,113 deaths in anthracite coal mines and 20,370 deaths in bituminous coal mines.

Wilson, Charles
(Miner, Electrican ca.1986, Clyde Mine, Washington Co., PA.);
(Killed.  Wilson was working in a high voltage electrical box that somehow was still entergized. It was spectalated that an electrical box down the line had water up to it that made a connection that doubled back to his box. His hands had burn marks from the charge he received.  Charles Wilson was the last miner to die in the Clyde Mine.)
Winston, William "Tod"
(Black Miner, ca.1937, Clyde No. 3 Mine, Washington Co., PA, Age 62, married, wife Laurinda Winston, 1 child.);
(Killed.  Fatally injured in a mining accident, in the Clyde No. 3 Mine, Dec. 8, 1936.  Died at Brownsville Hospital Jan. 27, 1937, from an infection resulting from injuries sustained in the accident.);
(Lived in Clarksville, PA.);
