Following is a partial list of the miners, mine employees and company store employees that worked the Acme Mines, Bentleyville, Washington Co., PA.   The coal miners names have been researched and complied from various sources by Raymond A. Washlaski, Historian: newspaper obits, newspaper articles, Pennsylvania Bureau of Mines Reports, township histories, and names of coal miners submitted by various people, etc..
The Nationalities listed for various miners, are taken directly from "Report of the Department of Mines of Pennsylvania, Harrisburg, PA" as reported for the various years.  Those listed as American, could be either native born or naturalized citizens.

(Injured.  Head cut and foot crushed by a fall of slate at the face of the working place, in the Acme No. 1 Mine, Aug. 23, 1909.)
Alexander, John
(Russian Miner, Machine Miner ca.1917, Acme No. 1 Mine, Washington Co., PA, Age 48, married.);
(Killed.  Fatally injured by a fall of slate at the face of a room while loading coal, in the Acme No. 1 Mine, Nov. 22, 1917.)
Alexander, Mike
(Miner, Pick Miner ca.1910, Acme No. 2 Mine, Washington Co., PA.);
(Killed.  Fatally injured by mine cars, in the Acme No. 2 Mine, Feb. 17, 1910.);
(On February 17, Ignoto Jackeheroff was instantly killed and Mike Alexander was fatally injured on the slope of the Acme No. 2 Mine, of the Pittsburgh Westmoreland Coal Company, by being struck by a runaway trip, while on their way to work.  The slope was operated by an endless rope haul and one of the grips slipped.)

(Prosecuted for Violation of the Mining Laws:  Dec. 23, 1916.  Charles Getalsky, miner and loader, Acme No. 1 Mine, Union Coal & Coke Company, Washington County. Charge:  Disobedience to orders by failing and neglecting to post overhanging slate and to make working place safe.  Defendant failed to appear when case first called;  bond was forgeited.  Later, March 5, 1917, defendant appeared and plead guilty.  Sentenced to pay costs and fine of $5.00.

After much negotiation, resulting finally in the installation of safety gates and appliances, a settlement was had. Costs were paimd by the defendant.  On March 3, 1916, nol. pros.was formerly entered by the District Attorney with leave of Court.)
