A Memorial to the Coal Miners that Worked the
United Mines & Coke Works


Following is a partial list of the miners, coke workers, mine employees and company store employees that worked the United Mines & Coke Works, United, Mt. Pleasant Twp, Westmoreland Co., PA.    The coal miners names have been researched and complied from various sources by Raymond A. Washlaski, Historian: newspaper obits, newspaper articles, Pennsylvania Bureau of Mines Reports, township histories, and names of coal miners submitted by various people, etc..
The Nationalities listed for various miners, are taken directly from "Report of the Department of Mines of Pennsylvania, Harrisburg, PA" as reported for the various years.  Those listed as American, could be either native born or naturalized citizens.

Saturday evening that had partly cut out coal stumps and had drawn part of the posts, expecting the roof to fall before Monday, but it did not.  On Monday, Andrew Lucko went back to cut the coal stump and the roof fell on him.)

(Killed.  Instantly killed by mine cars, in the United Mine, Dec. 7, 1900.);
(Guy Weltner, an engineer, in charge of a compressed air locomotive in the United Mine, was instantly killed Dec. 7th by a loaded runaway mine car colliding with the locomotive on the main haulage road.  The wagon started from a point near room No. 10 on 22 Butt of No. 6 face entry, and ran a distance of about 5,000 feet, passing around different curves on its journey, to where it collided with the engine.  The engine was coming up the main haulage road with a trip of empty mine cars.)
