Following is a partial list of the miners, mine employees, and company store employees that worked the Southwest No. 2 Mine, Southwest No. 3 Mine, Tarrs and Southwest No. 4 Mine, East Huntingdon Twp., Westmoreland Co., PA.   The coal miners names have been researched and complied from various sources by Raymond A. Washlaski, Historian: newspaper obits, newspaper articles, Pennsylvania Bureau of Mines Reports, township histories, and names of coal miners submitted by various people, etc..
The Nationalities listed for various miners, are taken directly from "Report of the Department of Mines of Pennsylvania, Harrisburg, PA" as reported for the various years.  Those listed as American, could be either native born or naturalized citizens.

(Killed.   Instantly killed by a fall of roof coal as he was drawing posts in a rib; there  were two other men with him at the time, one of whom told him not to go back for the post, but he did not heed him, but rushed with his axe and knocked the opost out.  The place fell in and completely covered him in the gob, and it took an hour's work to get him out; he was killed by his own willful carelessness, in the South West No. 3 Mine, July 2, 1892.)

(Injured.  Burned by the flame of a blown out shot, and explosion of coal dust, in the South West No. 4 Mine, Feb. 14, 1901.);
(Son of Kasper Caperell, who was killed by the explosion.);

Caperell, Kasper
(Italian Miner, Pick Miner ca.1901, South West No. 4 Mine, Tarrs, Westmoreland Co., PA, Age 70, married, 2 children.);
(Killed.  Fatally injured by an explosion of coal dust, caused by a blown out shot, in the South West No. 4 Mine, Feb. 14, 1901.  Kasper Caperell, miner, was fatally burned by the flame of powder and coal dust;  the victim was employed with his son;  they had charged a blast and requested the driver, who had instructions to do so, to fire the same which he did, the room was in a distance of about thirty feet, and was near to an inlet air current and temperature being low, ice was formed near to the place and the dust was very dry.  The shot was placed too straight into the solid and was charged too heavily and blew out igniting the dust, the flame from which reached a distance of about fifty feet to the point where the victim and his son were standing, burning them both;  the son recovered, but the father was removed to the Connellsville Hospital where he died ten days later; Explosive gas never was detected in this mine.);

A fall of roof caught Grago and then a heavier fall came.  His body was recovered the next day.)

(He was employed drawing a slab from the side of a room pillar.  He had let a small coal stump remain at the interior end of space which he had withdrawn, and he had drawn a portion of the posts on the evening previous, thinking the weight would crush the coal stump out.  This did not occur, and upon entering the place the next morning he took a pick, went under the roof and attempted to cut out the siad coal stum, when the roof fell and caught him.)
