A Memorial to the Coal Miners that Worked the
Port Royal Mines


Following is a partial list of the miners, coke workers, mine employees and company store employees that worked the Port Royal Mines, Fitz Henry (Port Royal), South Huntingdon  Twp. and Rostraver Twp.   The coal miners names have been researched and complied from various sources by Raymond A. Washlaski, Historian: newspaper obits, newspaper articles, Pennsylvania Bureau of Mines Reports, township histories, and names of coal miners submitted by various people, etc..
The Nationalities listed for various miners, are taken directly from "Report of the Department of Mines of Pennsylvania, Harrisburg, PA" as reported for the various years.  Those listed as American, could be either native born or naturalized citizens.

(Killed.  Fatally injured by an explosion of fire damp, in the Port Royal No. 2 Mine, Westmoreland Co., PA, June 10,1901, during mine a rescue attempt to free the trapped miners, both of his eyes were destroyed and he was fatally burned.  He was conscious when they brought him out of the Port Royal Mine.  He was placed on the train and removed to McKeesport Hospital, he died June 11, 1901, on the train before it reached McKeesport Hospital.);
(Carolina Keilbach Krugar was two months pregnant with their first child, when Fred Kreuter died.  Frederick Ludwig Jacob George John Kreuter was born January 28, 1902, he went by Fred Kreuter.)
(Brother-in-law of Bernard "Barney" Boll (Bald, Barney), who was also killed in the Port Royal Mine explosion, June 10, 1901.);
