Following is a partial list of the miners, mine employees and company store employees that worked the Penn Gas No. 5 Mine (Southside Mine), Penn Borough, Penn Twp., Westmoreland Co., PA

(Injured.  Head and body bruised by being struck by an empty trip on the main haulage slope while returning from work.  He left the manway to travel on the haulage slope, in the Penn gas No. 5 Mine, Jan. 2, 1912.)
Benoweski, Samuel
(Polish Miner, Pick Miner ca.1904, Penn Gas No. 5 Mine, Westmoreland Co., PA, Age 42, married, 3 children.);
(Killed.  Instantly killed by a fall of slate, in the Penn Gas No. 5 Mine, April 29, 1904.)
Boltz, Carl
(German Miner, Machine Runner ca.1905, Penn Gas No. 5 Mine, Westmoreland Co., PA, Age 27, married.);
(Injured.  Leg broken by a mining machine.  The machine jack became loosened, allowing the machine to swing around and catch him, in the Penn Gas No. 5 Mine, Oct. 4, 1905.)

(Prosecuted for Violation of Mining Laws:  December 13, 1916, Informatin was made againat Simon Katz, miner, Penn Gas No. 5 Mine, of the Penn Gas Coal Company.  Charge:  Firing shot without tamping hole and also using short fuse.  Case did not come up until the February, 1917, Term of Court.  He plead guilty.  Sentence, $5.00 fine and the costs.)
Krowyeski, Tony
(Polish Miner, Machine Miner ca.1916, Penn Gas No. 5 Mine, Westmoreland Co., PA, Age 28, married.);
(Killed.  Spine fractured by a fall of three-inch roof ply at the face of a room, in the Penn Gas No. 5 Mine, Nov. 30, 1916.  He died in the hospital December 13, 1916.)
Kusekiski, Anthony
(Polish Miner, Coal Loader ca.1908, Penn Gas No. 5 Mine, Westmoreland Co., PA, Age 21, single.);
(Killed.  Instantly killed by fall of slate in break-through. He had fired a shot and did not take time to examine the roof, or the place was too smoky for him to detect the dangerous slate, in the Penn Gas No. 5 Mine, June 17, 1908.)

(Injured.  Leg broken and scalp lacerated by a fall of slate at the working face, in the Penn Gas No. 5 Mine, Feb. 4, 1916.)
McCabe, James
(Irish Miner, Mule Driver ca.1914, Penn Gas No. 5 Mine, Westmoreland Co., PA, Age 53, single.);
(Killed.  Dragged to death by mule on entry. The hook of brake rope (which he was wearing around his waist like a belt) caught in trace of mule, throwing him down against heels of mule.  The mule ran off dragging him a distance of 1,500 feet along entry.  Died a few minutes after being found and released, in the Penn Gas No. 5 Mine, Sept. 21, 1914.)
Morris, Andrew
(Russian Miner, Pick Miner ca.1902, Penn Gas No. 5 Mine, Westmoreland Co., PA, Age 32, married, 4 children.);
(Killed.  Andrew Morris was so seriously injured by a fall of coal and slate in the Penn Gas No. 5 Mine, Nov.22, 1902, that death resulted on the 26th. inst.)

(Killed.  Instantly killed by coming in contact with electric machine wire in No. 24 room on No. 13 butt off No. 3 north.  He left his place and went into 24 room, where a machine was cutting the room, when he turned to leave the room he passed the machine truck and came in contact with the electric wires, in the Penn Gas No. 5 Mine, Dec. 31, 1910.)
Pinknakovicht, Mike

(Injured.  Leg broken by a fall of slate from the roof while walking out of mine on traveling way, in the Penn Gas No. 5 Mine, Sept. 7, 1910.)
Pleasant, John
(American Miner, Mule Driver ca.1914, Penn Gas No. 5 Mine, Westmoreland Co., PA, Age 36, married.);
(Injured.  Compound fracture of leg by mine cars on an entry, in the Penn Gas No. 5 Mine, Aug. 5, 1914.)
Poleski, Anthony
(Miner, ca.1910, Penn Gas No. 5 Mine, Westmoreland Co., PA.);
(Prosecuted for Violations of the Mining Laws:  March, 1910: Information was made against Nick Rodovick and Anthony Poleski, emp-loyed at Mine No. 5 of the Penn Gas Coal Company, charged with passing the danger signal at entrance to room, placed there by the fire boss on account of danger from blasts missing fire, etc.  Nick Rodovick was committed to jail in default of bail.  Anthony Poleski was admitted to bail in the sum of $50.00, with D.E. Dunmire surety.  March 26, 1910, defendant plead guilty and was sentenced to pay a fine of $10.00 and costs.  March 26, 1910, fine and costs, to wit, $51.20, were also paid.)
