Map of Loyalhanna Township showing the location of the Village of Patton.  Slickville is just to the right of Patton, on the valley road.

Patton Mines, both No.1, which was located at the Patton ball field, and Patton No. 2 which was on the opposite side of the highway, up from the railroad tipple. Three of the miners had shacks they lived in alongside the creek near the railroad tipple.

The Mitch Petrosky mine was part of the original Slickville Mine, along PA Rt.891 north of Slickville. Petrosky made a new entry into the existing mine, and was removing the stumps, and selling for house coal only. It was dangerous as soon as most of the stump was removed, the roof came down.

Joe Blair said "My father showed me a few of these falls, while we were working another entry, and it scared the you know what out of me."

"I would walk past the Jamison mine everyday went walking to the Elrico school, it was working up until the end of WWII"

"As you can imagine living in Patton in the 1930/40's, their was not much to do, so we spent considerable time around the mines, riding the coal cars on Sunday, stealing the coal from the cars for heating on Monday!!!"

Regards
Joe Bair

The only indication that a town exists in the hills above the former Turtle Creek Branch of the Pennsylvania Railroad is this road sign, noting the Village of Patton.

The first building you see as you enter the Village of Patton is the former Coal Company Store.  The building was converted to apartments.
