Dec. 27, 1901. He had just fired a shot and was returning to fire another
when the slate fell and crushed him.)
Caseltina, Joe

4 children.);
(The third mine fatality to occur in the immediate community within two days,
took place in the mine of the Loyalhanna Coal & Coke Company, when Joe
Caseltina, an Italian, living in house No. 47, Loyalhanna, was caught beneath
a fall of loose slate while engaged in drawing ribs, and was so badly injured
that he died within an hour after being ammitted to the Westmoreland Hospital.
He was horribly crushed, both legs having been broken, his skull fracturedm
and internal injuries received, which caused his death. The miner was
about forty years of age and had been in this country for some time past.
He is surrived by a widow and four children. Two of the children
are in Loyalhanna, while the other two are visiting in Italy, and it will
be weeks before they are informated of the sad death of their father. The
