Following is a partial list of the miners, mine employees and company store employees that worked the Lyons Run Mine (Pleasant Valley Drift Mine), Pleasant Valley, Penn Twp, Westmoreland Co., PA
The Nationalities listed for various miners, are taken directly from "Report of the Department of Mines of Pennsylvania, Harrisburg, PA" as reported for the various years.  Those listed as American, could be either native born or naturalized citizens.

(Injured.  Leg cut and bruised by being caught between the haulage rope and a sheave wheel on the dilly road while oiling the sheave, in the Lyons Run Mine, Jan. 26, 1912.)

Brecko, George
(American Miner, Pick Miner ca.1900, Pleasant Valley Mine, Westmoreland Co., PA, Age 43, single.);
(Killed.  Killed by a fall of slate at the face of a room, in the Pleasant Valley Mine, Jan. 16, 1900.);
(George Brecko was instantly killed January 16th by a fall of slate in the Pleasant Valley Mine.  He was at his regular work in room 32 off 9 entry.  He failed to arrive at his boarding house at the usual time and a search was made and he was found under the fall.  The slate in this part of the mine is full of slips and dampness which causes it to be very damagerous.  Brecko was aware of this, he having worked in the mine about three and one-half years.)

Smith, Charles
(American Miner Boy, Trapper Boy ca.1898, Pleasant Valley Mine, Westmoreland Co., PA, Age 15.);
(Killed.  Fatally injured by a slate wagon running on him, outside the mine, at the Pleasant Valley Mine, Nov. 2, 1898.  The deceased has finished his day's work and got on a slate car, which was on the rear end of a trip, to rid out.  On reaching the outside, Smith stood upright on the wagon, which was cut loose from the trip near a switch used for a dirt dump.  He jumped from the car and in front of it and before he could recover himself the slate car was upon him.  Persons who were near the car at the time tried to stp the car, but could not.  He was removed to the Greensburg Hospital, where he died on the following day.)
