Iselin Mines


Following is a partial listing of the miners, mine employees and company store employees that worked the Iselin Mines, Iselin, Young Twp., Indiana Co., PA.    The coal miners names have been researched and complied from various sources by Raymond A. Washlaski, Historian:  Birth Records, Death Records, newspaper obits, newspaper articles, Pennsylvania Bureau of Mines Reports, township histories, and names of coal miners submitted by various people, etc..
The Nationalities listed for various miners, are taken directly from "Report of the Department of Mines of Pennsylvania, Harrisburg, PA" as reported for the various years.  Those listed as American, could be either native born or naturalized citizens.

(Killed.  Fatally injured by being struck by a runaway mine car on an entry, in the Iselin No. 2 Mine, Sept. 6, 1905.);
(September 6, 1905, Ignats Akaron, machine loader, was so seriously injured by being struck by runaway mine cars in the Iselin No. 2 mine, that death resulted in about thirty minutes.  The accident occurred on No. 2 entry right.  With Peter Bella he had dropped a car from above No. 32 room down below the parting, and they were pushing it into the room when the mine cars that had been left standing above came down and struck them.  Bella had three ribs broken.)

( He took his family to Detroit then, and worked in the auto industry till ca.1958 when mining drew him back to Pa.; this time working first in Brownstown, PA and again later for Allegheny River Mining.);
(In ca.1965 he had a heart attack in the mine and never returned to work.);
He passed away in March of 1966 and is buried in Iselin beside his wife , Margaret Pollack Presensky.)
