| HISTORY: The Trotter Mine & Coke Works were built by the Consolidated Connellsville Coke Company, Pittsburg, PA ca.1880. By Dec., 1883 the H.C. Frick Coke Company had acquired the Consolidated Connellsville Coke Company, and taken over the operation of the Trotter Mine & Coke Works, at Trotter, Dunbar Township, Fayette Co., Pennsylvania. The Trotter Water Company was established on the west side of the Youghiogheny River, above Connellsville, ca.1880. Water was pumped from the Youghiogheny River to a reservoir above the river on Porter Hill. The Trotter Water Company supplied the coke works at the Trotter Mine and the Leisenring Mines coke operations with water for quenching the coke. In addition, the coal company-built communities used water from the Trotter Water Company for domestic consumption. When the H.C. Frick Coke Company gained control of the work at the Leisenring Mines and the Trotter Mine, it assumed control of the Trotter Water Company. As a subsidary of the H.C. Frick Coke Company, the Trotter Water Company retained its name and became the largest water supply business in the county. |
