(Killed.  Instantly killed by a fall of roof coal, in the Rist Mine, July 22, 1898.);
(James Hason, was instantly killed by a fall of roof coal on July 22, 1898 in Rist Mine.  This accident happened in a very pecular manner.  He was taking back a skip on main entry stump, and having a good roof he through to knock out some posts in order to allow the coal roof to fall because it was good clean coal, but by doing so he lost his life.  This is easily explained to any one who draws ribs or stumps, that when a person wants to knock out posts they shoulkd be set up so close together that the drawing of one would not allow the whole roof to fall over them, but there is too much of this done, not alone by the foreign element that is here, for the same can be said for the American miners, as this is the second case of the kind this month in this district.)

(Killed.  Killed by mine cars. He was dead when found, in Rist  Mine, June 2, 1903.);
(June 2, Rist Mine, Richard Kerfoot, haulageway repairman, was found dead.  He was employed cleaning the track and repairing the rollers along the main haulage way.  Patrick Reynolds, mine foreman, was the last person who saw him alive.  Reynolds passed by riding upon the dilly trip of empty mine cars about 9.25 o'clock A.M., and as Kerfoot's watch was injured and had stopped at 9.34, it is presumed that he was caught by the returning loaded trip, as the position of the body also indicated that it had first been caught by the loaded trip.  But nothing further was known of Kerfoot until his body, which was severed in twain, was discovered at 2.30 P.M. by Frank Beals, who was walking out by the haulage.  The circumstances which caused the accident are unknow, as there was sufficient room all along the side for him to have gotten out of the way of the trip.)
