A Memorial to the Coal Miners that Worked the
Revere Mines & Coke Works


Following is a partial list of the miners, coke workers, mine employees and company store employees that worked the Revere Mine & Coke Works, Uledi P.O., Revere, Menallen Twp., Fayette Co., PA.   The coal miners names have been researched and complied from various sources by Raymond A. Washlaski, Historian: newspaper obits, newspaper articles, Pennsylvania Bureau of Mines Reports, township histories, and names of coal miners submitted by various people, etc.
The Nationalities listed for various miners, are taken directly from "Report of the Department of Mines of Pennsylvania, Harrisburg, PA" as reported for the various years.  Those listed as American, could be either native born or naturalized citizens.

Since 1870, Pennsylvania's Annual Report on Mining Activities has recorded 51,483 deaths from mining accidents-- 31,113 deaths in anthracite coal mines and 20,370 deaths in bituminous coal mines.

(Killed.  Instantly  killed by a fall of slate, in the Revere Mine, July 24, 1906.);
(July 24, 1906, Frank Marino, Italian, miner, Revere Mine, was instantly killed by a fall of slate.  He had begun to cut a rib over and draw slate had fallen.  After firing a shot he went back to work.  The shot had loosened a piece of draw slate that fell on him.)

(May 25, 1906, Charles Moon, American, driver, Revere Mine, was instantly killed while coming down butt heading.  When near the bottom it is supposed that he attempted to pass between two cars to the opposite side, and was caught and his head crushed between car and rib.)

(American Miner, Coke Oven Charger ca.1903, Revere Mine, Fayette Co., PA, Age 22, single.);
(Killed.  Instantly killed by being thrown from the oven oven charging larry off the coke ovens, outside the Revere Mine, Sept. 8, 1903.);
(James Upperman was employed as a charger at the Revere Mine Coke Works.  The larry of which he had charge while on the down grade jumped the track; another larry following close crashed into it, knocking Upperman from the top of the ovens to the yard below, a distance of about 15 feet, breaking his neck.)
