| The H.C. Frick Coke Company Ralph Mines
Baseball Team of 1926. Photo was taken during the H.C. Frick Coke
Company Annual Picnic at Idlewild Park. The teams played in the
highly competitive Frick Company Baseball League. Mine superintendents
would go to extreme lengths to field a winning baseball team. If you
were a good baseball player, you could just about write your own ticket as
far as work was concerned in the mines. About the only requirement
was to show up around the mine occasionally. (Photo courtesy of the "Coal & Coke Heritage Center, Penn State University Fayette Campus, Uniontown, PA.") |
