The coal company patch town of Dunlap or Garwood was built ca.1909 by the Dunlaps Connellsville Coke Company for the miners at their Garwood Mine & Coke Works. It is not certain when the Garwood Mine closed.  The coal company patch town of Dunlap ceased to exist sometime in the 1940's.

The few remaining traces of the town of Dunlap and the Garwood Mine complex ca.2005 will be buried forever under the new Mon-Fayette Expressway.
