| HISTORY: Franklin Mine & Coke Works From the Report of the Inspectors of Mines, 1889: Franklin Mine. Located on the Mt. Pleasant Branch of the B. & O. R. R., at Owensdale, PA. Owners, B. F. Keister & Co.. Drift opening . Ventilated by furnace and worked under the single-entry system. This mine is well drained and throughly ventilated and its general condition is unusually good in spite of its single entries; however, the evil efforts of that system will not be felt until the pillars are to be drawn from the back end of the property.
