Following is a partial list of the miners, coke workers, mine employees and company store employees that worked the Connellsville Shaft Mine & Coke Works (Davidson Shaft Mine & Coke Works), Davidson, Connellsville Twp., Fayette Co., PA.   The coal miners names have been researched and complied from various sources by Raymond A. Washlaski, Historian: newspaper obits, newspaper articles, Pennsylvania Bureau of Mines Reports, township histories, and names of coal miners submitted by various people, etc..
The Nationalities listed for various miners, are taken directly from "Report of the Department of Mines of Pennsylvania, Harrisburg, PA" as reported for the various years.  Those listed as American, could be either native born or naturalized citizens.

(Killed.  Instantly killed by a fall of mine roof, in the Davidson Shaft Mine, Sept. 6, 1901.  He had the pillar drawn out far enough, but there was a small stump left, and he thought by taking this out it would be complete, but the first stroke of his pick loosned it enough to allow all the roof to fall on him.  It took six hours to get his body out.)

(May 6, 1905, John Ratko, miner, was fatally injured at the Davidson Mine by falling off the ascending hoisting cage, a distance of aout 100 feet.  He was found at the shaft bottom in a semi-conscious condition and removed to the hospital, where he died the following day.)

(Prosecuted for Violation of the Mining Laws:  July 19, 1913,  Henry Rohland, shot firer at Davidson mine of H.C. Frick Coke Company.  Charge:  Neglect of duty in failing to erect a danger board at the entrance to a place where a shot had missed fire.  Plead guilty in court and was sentenced to pay the costs.)

(Killed.  Fatally injured by a fall of roof, in the Davidson Mine, Sept. 21, 1909.  Suffered a broken back from the fall of mine roof and slate.  His injuries were a fracture of the cervical vertebra, a short distance below the neck.  He is paralyzed below that point, but has the use of his arms and can move his head and talk and is fully conscious.  Taken home and removed to the hospital.  Died the next day.);

(Killed.  Instantly killed by being caught by a mine wagon against a coal rib, in the Davidson Shaft Mine, July 9, 1901.  This happened by the boy standing where he should not have been, and one of the loaded mine wagons bumped against another knocking it against the rib side where he was standing, killing him instantly.)
Spittler, Frank
(Swiss Miner, ca.1895 - ca.1909, Davidson Mine, Fayette Co., PA, Age 56, married, wife Rose Bauer Spittler, 5 children.);
(Killed.  Fatally injured by a fall of roof, in the Davidson Mine, Sept. 21, 1909.  Suffered a broken back from the fall of mine roof and slate.  He has a fracture of the dorasl portion of the spine, which is about the middle of the back.  He is paralyzed below that point.  Removed to Cottage State Hospital.  Lived on North Ave., Connellsville, PA. [from the "Connellsville Courier," Sept. 21, 1909.]  Died a year later from his injuries on Sept. 29, 1910.);

Swink died at the South Side Hospital in Pittsburgh on Wed., March 13, 1901, of Pneumonia.  Deceased worked at Davidson coke works and was operated on several weeks ago at the Cottage State hospital going later to Pittsburgh for treatment. He leaved a wife and two children. [from "The Connellsville Courier," March 15, 1901.].);
