Following is a partial list of the miners, mine employees and company store employees that worked the Banning No. 1 Mine & Banning No. 2 Mine, Banning, Fayette Co., PA.   The coal miners names have been researched and complied from various sources by Raymond A. Washlaski, Historian: newspaper obits, newspaper articles, Pennsylvania Bureau of Mines Reports, township histories, and names of coal miners submitted by various people, etc..
The Nationalities listed for various miners, are taken directly from "Report of the Department of Mines of Pennsylvania, Harrisburg, PA" as reported for the various years.  Those listed as American, could be either native born or naturalized citizens.

(Prosecuted for Violation of the Mining Laws:  February 15, 1917.  Rocha Christa, miner, Banning No. 1 Mine, Pittsburgh Coal Company.  Charge:  Carrying matches and other smoker's articles into mine.   Plead guilty before a Justice of the Peace and was permitted to settle by paying the costs and promising to obey the law thereafter.)
Chuhran, John

(Killed.  Instantly killed by a fall of slate, in the Banning No. 1 Mine, June 22, 1898.);
(John Chuhrun, Slavish, miner, was instantly killed by a fall of slate in his room in Banning Mine on June 22, 1898.  This happened through not putting posts under it, or in taking it down instead of shoveling coal from under it.  The testimony showed that they intended to take it down as soon as the coal was cleaned back and when all but the last shovelful was cleaned back, the slate fell on Chuhrun.  He was only a short time working in this vein and seemed not to realize the danger from the slate.);

(Killed.  Instantly killed by coming in contact with a Trolley wire.  550 volts.  The wire had been broken down by a fall of roof on the haulage road, causing a ground and starting a fire.  Hayas was coming out on the haulage road in a car when he discovered smoke some distance from the fall. He kept on until the horse stopped, which happened at the place the wire was down and Hayas stepped out of the mine car, in the confusion, on the side the wire was on, in the Banning No. 2 Mine, June 11, 1914.)

(Killed.  Killed instantly by a fall of slate, in the Banning No. 1 Mine, June 8, 1905.);
(June 8,  1905, William Hileman, miner, was instantly killed at Banning No. 1 Mine by a piece of slate.  Hileman was pulling down slate, and in shifting the last piece over to the gob a piece of slate 4 feet square and 4 inches thick fell on him.  The place was well timbered and appeared to be safe.)
