Radish, Rada

(Killed. Instantly killed by blown-out coal from a shot at face
of butt entry off shaft bottom. The shot-fire charged the hole with
two sticks of Collier No.5, and inserted a Victor triple cap into one of
the sticks of powder, with six feet of fuse wire. The entryman asisted
him to tamp the hole. He, the shot-fire, complained of being sick and
he went and sat down for a period of from 6 to 10 minutes and then arose
as though he was going to examine the entry before firing the shot. The shot
went off when he was ten to fifteen feet from face of entry. He had
a small battery in his vest pocket, and as the hole was only five feet deep
about twelve to fifteen inches of the fire wire projected from the hole,
and the supposition is that the fuse wire came in contact with the battery
in the vest pocket. He had four years experience as a shot-fire in
