Derby Mine
(Darby Mine)
(ca.1860-  ?  ), located about 3/4 of a mile west of Phillipsburg, Clearfield Co., PA
[The coal was first hauled on a tram-road to Phillipsburg, and sold for local use. The Tyrone and Clearfield Railroad reached the mine ca.1864, and the tipple was located opposite the railroad depot on the Derby Branch.]
["The Darby mine three-fourth mile west of Philipsburg was opened in 1860 and the coal hauled to Philipsburg and sold for local use." This same mine is claimed to have been the first in Clearfield county from which coal was shipped to market over the railroad, in 1864.]

DuBois, Clearfield Co., PA
[Du Bois, the original spelling of the city, was originally known as Rumbarger. In 1865, John Rumbarger purchased land that was situated along the Allegheny Valley Railroad. In mid-1872, Mr. Rumbarger planted a town named after himself. Around the same time of naming the town Rumbarger, a gentleman by the name of John Du Bois had engineered a vast array of improvements to the town to include the railroad station which was named Du Bois. The town changed the name from Rumbarger to the presently known Du Bois, also spelled DuBois.]
