as part of an Eagle Scout Project
The Rank of Eagle Scout represents the pinnacle of a boy's Scouting experience. It is a high accomplishment which only two percent of all Boy Scouts achieve. The Eagle Award represents the mastering of Scouting skills, the demonstration of leadership abilities and the Scouting spirit, the ability to be of service to fellow men, the understanding of community and nation, the willingness to help others, and most significantly, the possession of strength of character.
As his Boy Scouts of America "Eagle Scout" project Ryan Patrick Washlaski, of New Alexandria, PA, then a sophomore from Derry Area High School, Derry Township, PA and a member of Boy Scout Troop 327 of Youngstown, Pennsylvania, Westmoreland - Fayette Council of the Boy Scouts of America, has undertaken research and construction of this world wide web site history of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Church and Cemetery, located at Shieldsburg, Salem Township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania and the renovation of the old cemetery grounds.
Ryan's Scouting Activities have included being a member of the Order of the Arrow, Wagion Lodge #6, he was past editor 1998 of the lodges newsletter "T-Bird Times", and a member of the Wagion Lodge Indian Dance Team.

After a break in his scouting activities, for other High School activities, he has completed his Eagle Requirements as a member of Boy Scout Troop 301, Derry, PA, and a senior at Derry Area High School.

Ryan is member of Community United Presbyterian Church, New Alexandria, PA.  His school activities include being a member of the Derry Area High School Trojan Marching Band Drumline, DAHS Concert Band, DAHS Jazz Band, a member of the DAHS Stage Crew & a Stage Lighting & Sound Technician, and a letterman with the Derry Area High School Varsity Track Team.  In 1999, 2000 and 2001 he placed in the 110M High Hurdles at the WCCA Track Meet. In 1999 & 2000 he ran the 110M High Hurdles in the Keystone State Games.  In 2000 he placed and in 2001 he placed 7th in the 110M High Hurdles at the WPIAL Track & Field Championships for western Pennsylvania.

Ryan also participates in French & Indian War Re-enactments as a member of and the drummer for Regiment de La Sarre, a recreated French Regular Regiment of 1756, and is also a member of and the drummer for Compagnie franche de la Marine de Contrecoeur, a recreated French Colonial Marine Company of 1754. He has participated in French & Indian War Re-enactments at Fort Frederick, Fort Niagara, Fort Ligonier, Fort Ticonderoga, Fortress of Louisbourg, plus many other historic sites.  In 1999 he was one of the featured musicians at "Encampment 99" at the Fortress of Louisbourg, Nova Scotia, Canada.

In 2002 he will be the French Drum Major for the 2002 Grand Encampment of the French & Indian War, to be held at Daniel Boone Homestead.

He has also been a member of the DCA "Steel City Alumni Drum & Bugle Corps," Pittsburgh, PA.,  An DCI "General Butler Vagabonds Junior Drum & Bugle Corps," Butler, PA.   His hobbies also include composing music,drumming, rock climbing, rappeling and spelunking.

His future plans include attending a university, majoring in Techinical Theater.
