[Philip Hartman, arrived in Ehrenfeld, Cambria Co., May, 1883 to open mines and superintend the construction of a coal plant for John C. Scott & Sons, members of the Webester Coal Co. These mines are known as No.3 & No.5. They laid out on the company grounds the town of Ehrenfeld, which would contain 124 houses, which were rented to their employees. Hartman placed the latest of practical machinery in the mines, secured all needed appliances for the coal yards and placed electric lights in the town of Ehrenfeld.]
