Following is a partial list of the miners, coke workers, mine employees and company store employees that worked the Gallitzin Shaft Mine & Coke Works, Gallitzin, Cambria Co., PA.   The coal miners names have been researched and complied from various sources by Raymond A. Washlaski, Historian: newspaper obits, newspaper articles, Pennsylvania Bureau of Mines Reports, township histories, and names of coal miners submitted by various people, etc..
The Nationalities listed for various miners, are taken directly from "Report of the Department of Mines of Pennsylvania, Harrisburg, PA" as reported for the various years.  Those listed as American, could be either native born or naturalized citizens.

Since 1870, Pennsylvania's Annual Report on Mining Activities has recorded 51,483 deaths from mining accidents-- 31,113 deaths in anthracite mines and 20,370 deaths in bituminous mines.

(Superintendent, ca.1905, ca.1906, of the Gallitzin Shaft Mine, Cambria Co., PA, for Taylor & McCoy Coal & Coke Company, Gallitzin, PA.)

Clauser, Martin
(Miner, Pick Miner, ca.1886, Galitzen Shaft Mine, Cambria Co., PA, Age 23.);
(Killed.  He was undermining his coal, which was loose from the top and both sides and was told to put a sprag under it by the friver when hauling out his car, but he did not jeed him.  The result was that it felt upon his head and killed him him almost instantly, in the Galitzen Shaft Mine, Jan. 25, 1886.)

(Injured.  Leg broken above the knee;  cause was, he had fired a shot in his coal and commenced shearing the side and, without warning the coal fell upon his leg, breaking it, in the Galitzen Shaft Mine, Nov. 2, 1886.)

(Limbs slightly injured.  Injured by a fall of bony roof, they neglected to set props, in the Gallitzin Shaft Mine, Jan. 18, 1905.)

(Injured.  Back and leg injured.  Injured by a fall of bony roof, they neglected to set props, in the Gallitzin Shaft Mine, Jan. 18, 1905.)

(Miner, Pick Miner ca1898, Gallitzen Slope Mine, Cambria Co., PA, Age 34, single.);
(Killed.  He was killed by electricity;  he was helping to lift a mine car on track and he straightened up and the back of his neck touched the trolley wire, and was he was standing in a wet place at the time, this made a short circuit through his body, killing him;  the wire only carried 250 volts, in the Gallitzin Slope Mine, Nev. 24, 1898.)
