1909. Seven men were burned by an explosion of blackpowder on the main
electric motor haulage road. It was the custom to haul the men in to
the side track in the morning. There were about 200 men on the empty
trip at the time and the victims were in the 15th mine car from the electric
motor. One of the men had a five pound can of powder, and a spark from
an open mine light ignited the blackpowder.)
