Arona Mine (ca.1892- ? ),
Located on the north bank of Little Sewickley Creek, at Madison Station, on the Hempfield Branch of the Southwest Pennsylvania, later the Pennsylvania Railroad, New Madison, 1/4 mile east of Darragh, near Arona, Hempfield Twp., Westmoreland Co., PA
Owners: (ca.1892-1902) Arona Gas Coal Company, Greensburg, PA
              (ca.1902-1925) Keystone Coal & Coke Company, Greensburg, PA
                                      [During the First World War, Keystone Coal & Coke Company ran the Arona Mine,
                                         Madison Mine & Sewickley Mine as one large operation.]
                                      [Keystone Coal & Coke Company sold the mine property in the late 1930's.]
              (ca.1940's-  ? ) Adam Eidemiller Coal Company, Greensburg , PA
                                      [stripped mined the coal in the vicinity of Arona and Darragh.]

I don't have any names for you as of yet but in my genealogy research I have found that the land belonged to Tobias Shumaker, left to son John S. Shumaker who in turn sold it to the Madison & Sewickly Coal Co. in 1890. He then bought "The moore Farm" which was 102 acres in which later he also sold all but 15 acres to the coal company. He then built a house on the 15 acres he had kept.

Just a little tidbit of info you may have been interested in. This was found in the book "History of Westmoreland County Pennsylvania" by John W. Jordan Volume 2 page 334
