Peterson Mine:
The Peterson Mine is operated by the McKean Coal Company.  It is located in Allegheny county on the West Penn Railroad, about one mile south of Tarentum.  Hauling is done by head and tail rope.  The mining is done by mining machines of the puncher type.  It is ventilated by a furnace.  A new tipple has been built.  Drainage was in good condition, but the ventilation was not carried up to the working faces as well as it might have been.  The system of mining the coal is defective.
