A Memorial to the Coal Miners that Worked the
"F" Mine (Pittsburg Terminal No. 6 Mine)


Following is a partial list of the miners, mine employees and company store employees that worked the "F" Mine (Pittsburg Terminal No. 6 Mine), Broughton, Allegheny Co., PA.   The coal miners names have been researched and complied from various sources by Raymond A. Washlaski, Historian: newspaper obits, newspaper articles, Pennsylvania Bureau of Mines Reports, township histories, and names of coal miners submitted by various people, etc..
The Nationalities listed for various miners, are taken directly from "Report of the Department of Mines of Pennsylvania, Harrisburg, PA" as reported for the various years.  Those listed as American, could be either native born or naturalized citizens.

Since 1870, Pennsylvania's Annual Report on Mining Activities has recorded 51,483 deaths from mining accidents-- 31,113 deaths in anthracite mines and 20,370 deaths in bituminous mines.

(Injured.  Side injured by being squeezed by a mine car at the working place, in the Pittsburgh Terminal No. 6 Mine, Sept. 10, 1917.)
Bolla, Paul
(Hungarian Miner, Coal Loader ca.1905, "F" Mine, Allegheny Co., PA, Age 24, single.);
(Killed.  Instantly killed by a fall of slate, in the "F" Mine, June 13, 1905.);
(June 13, Paul Bolla, loader, was instantly killed in "F" Mine (Pittsburg Coal Company), by a fall of slate, while, it is supposed, he was arranging the track near the road-head of his room.  The place showed no evidence of post having been set under the slate.)

(At Pittsburg Terminal No. 6 Mine, on July 25, Vasila Kostika, loader, was so seriously injured by a fall of slate that death resulted three hours later.  The victim, at the time of the accident, was knocking coal.  This accident was the result of carelessness, as there were no posts used to support the slate.)

(Killed.  Killed instantly by a fall of coal, in the "F" Mine, Aug. 1, 1905.);
(August 1, John Krymowski, Machine Scraper, was instantly killed in "F" Mine (Pittsburg Coal Company), by a fall of coal and slate, while removing slack from a mining machine.  This accident seems to have been unavoidable, owing to the fact that the slate was cut by a slip running parallel to the face, which released the coal.)
